The snub felt ’round the world has the Daily Mail dishing out the deets on Robbie’s candid chat during a glitzy Q&A at the Academy Museum.
The Aussie dazzler, aged 33, skirted around her own Oscar cold shoulder but didn’t hold back when it came to “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig’s baffling bypass in the Best Director category. Despite the flick’s haul of nods across the board, including Best Picture, Gerwig’s genius was glaringly ignored. “Greta’s work was a once-in-a-lifetime marvel, but hey, it’s been one heck of a year for movies,” Robbie remarked.
The “Barbie” bonanza didn’t end there, with Robbie gushing that the film’s eight nominations had the team jumping for joy. With nods including Ryan Gosling’s Best Supporting Actor and America Ferrera’s Best Supporting Actress tags, Robbie’s pride was palpable. “We aimed to shake up the culture, and boy, did we do just that – way beyond our wildest dreams,” she beamed, dismissing any hint of disappointment.
Wrapping up with a message to her fans, Robbie oozed positivity, “With blessings like these, who’s got time to be sad?”
Ryan Gosling chimed in too, humbly appreciating his nod but quick to point out, “There’s no Ken without Barbie,” hinting at the snub’s sting.
But the surprises didn’t stop with Robbie and Gerwig. Hollywood’s golden boy, Leonardo DiCaprio, found himself out in the cold, missing a Best Actor nod for “Killers of the Flower Moon”, despite his co-stars bagging nominations. With a history of seven nominations and a win for “The Revenant”, Leo’s latest oversight has raised eyebrows.
The snub fest continued with Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn”, Ben Affleck’s “Air”, Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla”, Paul King’s “Wonka”, and Sean Durkin’s “The Iron Claw” all getting the cold shoulder in the Best Picture category.
