Wyant, no stranger to the law with a rap sheet including a 2015 jail stint for shooting a gang member, has now added lamb slayer to her notorious legacy. The scene unfolded in the Dunedin District Court where Wyant faced the music and got slammed with a hefty two and a-half-year jail sentence for her latest booze-fueled fiasco.
As Cyclone Gabrielle threatened havoc a young shepherd heroically tried to save his lambs only to have Wyant plow through the innocent animals, leaving a trail of destruction and 29 dead lambs in her wake. Her weapon of choice? A vehicle steered with a blood alcohol level that blasted past legal limits, hitting more than four times the accepted mark.
The aftermath was grim – not only were the lambs lost, but Wyant also hurled abuse at the young shepherds and police who confronted her.
She was later caught swerving through lanes in another drunken stupor.
In court her lawyer blamed her spiral on alcohol and a life upturned by the cyclone, but the judge wasn’t buying it. It was clear – Wyant’s dangerous antics were a menace to society, lamb or human.
In addition to jail time, Wyant was banned from driving indefinitely, and was slapped with a bill for the damages.
