Bandit teens nabbed in stolen car saga

Cops put the brakes on a gang's wild plans, slapping cuffs on two teen troublemakers following a high-speed escapade on Monday night.

Police intervened to thwart a group’s activities, leading to court appearances for two individuals involved in an incident involving a fleeing driver on Monday night.

Shortly before midnight, authorities were alerted to a vehicle, suspected to be stolen, traveling on State Highway 16 in West Auckland.

Waitematā West Area Commander, Inspector Jason Edwards, reported that the vehicle was believed to have been stolen from Sunnyhills earlier that day.

Officers located the vehicle heading towards Te Atatū Peninsula, with aerial support, Eagle, quickly deployed to track its movements.

Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, it sped off, prompting police units on the ground to decide against a chase.

Inspector Edwards noted that aerial surveillance continued as the vehicle made its way towards Henderson.

Eventually, the vehicle was observed entering the car park of West City Mall, where police units converged and successfully apprehended three individuals without any further issues.

Two of the detainees, aged 14 and 15, have been charged in connection with the incident and are scheduled to appear in Waitākere Youth Court.

The third individual, also 15, has been referred to Youth Aid.
