Armed teen and midnight bandits nabbed: Auckland police strike twice in one night

Auckland City Police have been on the prowl, making swift arrests overnight after two separate crime sprees rocked the district.

First up, officers swooped in on a 15-year-old who brandished a weapon at Point Chevalier retail staff, making off with stolen goods.

Inspector Wayne Kitcher of Auckland City West revealed that the teen fled on foot but was swiftly tracked down and hauled into custody without further trouble.

“Fortunately, no one was injured, and the young offender has been referred to Youth Aid,” Kitcher reported.

But the night’s drama didn’t stop there. Just after 10 p.m., a pair of women allegedly broke into an Auckland Central apartment building, stuffing their bags with loot before trying to slip away under the cover of night. Unbeknownst to them, the police were hot on their trail, and both were caught red-handed and charged with multiple offenses, including breaching bail.

Inspector Dave Christoffersen of Auckland City Central praised his team’s efforts, noting that all stolen property has been recovered and will soon be returned to the owners.

“This is a prime example of our officers’ dedication to holding criminals accountable while ensuring community safety,” he said.

The duo will appear before the Auckland District Court today to face justice. With the city’s Prevention teams on high alert, Inspector Christoffersen assured residents that they will continue working tirelessly to keep further criminal activity at bay.
