Suffering through a relentless barrage of bullying and psychological torture at the hands of his boss, Liam Field, that not only shattered his peace but also his health.
Parker’s ordeal included panic attacks and a severe stomach abscess that demanded surgical intervention, all thanks to the toxic tirades and belittlement he endured.
The drama unfolded in Auckland’s Magnum Hire, where Parker was subjected to everything from public humiliation to threats about his job security.
The Employment Relations Authority, with Sarah Blick adjudicating decided Field’s antics created an environment so unsafe it eventually led to Parker’s unjust suspension and constructive dismissal.
Field told the NZ Herald he plans to appeal against the decision.
Parker’s tale of woe includes being accused of slacking off to work at a family cafe, a charge he denied, and being blamed for the company’s dipping profits. The company was described by witnesses as toxic and male-dominated, with Field setting the tone for an unapproachable, rude vibe that had staff walking on eggshells.
Despite Field’s denial and attempts to paint Parker in a negative light, claiming he bullied staff and had gang affiliations, the ERA saw through the smokescreen. There was no evidence supporting Field’s claims, but plenty highlighting the abuse Parker suffered, leading to his health spiraling and a forced resignation.
Blick’s verdict didn’t just come with a hefty payout; it also included orders for Magnum Hire to shape up, implementing a bullying and harassment policy and a better code of conduct.
Field, however, remains defiant, ready to take his battle to the courts.
