Kiwis fume over Whittaker’s ‘Choc Cross Bun’ Limited Edition snub

New Zealanders have express their frustration on social media over Whittaker’s new “Choc Cross Bun” flavoured chocolate bar, which has been released in Australia but not yet in New Zealand.

The limited-edition chocolate, priced at AU$6.90 (NZD $7.45), combines the flavours of hot cross buns with Whittaker’s popular “Creamy Milk” chocolate. Despite its recent launch, the bar is already popular in Australia, quickly selling out in Coles supermarkets.

The release of this Easter-themed chocolate in Australia before New Zealand has sparked disappointment among Kiwis. Many have taken to social media to express their dismay, questioning why Australia often gets limited editions first.

Whittaker’s confirmed that the chocolate will be available in New Zealand from February 5, following the positive reception in the Australian market.

Soraya Cottin, Whittaker’s chief marketing officer, mentioned that the bar is a modern take on the traditional Easter favourite, combining quality chocolate with the nostalgic taste of hot cross buns.

Reactions in Australia are mixed. Some Coles shoppers are not impressed, while others, including food enthusiasts like Michael Jaimie from South Australia, have praised it.

Jaimie described the chocolate as ‘indulgent’, with chunky raisins, mixed spice flavour, and orange oil, noting that it’s quite spicy but not in terms of heat.
