Vital Voices, the non-profit behind the prestigious award, revoked the honour just weeks after presenting it, citing allegations of “abhorrent conduct” that contradict the organisation’s values. The award, given on December 9 in New York and presented by comedian Hasan Minhaj, was meant to recognise “remarkable men” championing women’s empowerment.
Lively, known for Gossip Girl, filed a legal complaint accusing Baldoni and his production company of harassment during their work on It Ends With Us, in which she plays a woman trapped in an abusive relationship with Baldoni’s character. Lively’s complaint outlines unsettling demands during a meeting about Baldoni’s alleged behaviour, including a ban on new intimate scenes and references to his “pornography addiction.” She also accused Baldoni’s team of using a “digital army” to smear her online.
Baldoni has denied the claims, with his lawyer calling them “categorically false” and accusing Lively of making “intentionally salacious” threats to derail the film unless her demands were met. The fallout has been swift: Baldoni’s podcast co-host Liz Plank announced her exit from *The Man Enough* show, citing the allegations.
While Baldoni initially posted about the award with hopes of inspiring young men toward “empathy and sensitivity,” the allegations have cast a shadow over his reputation. Vital Voices, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment to aligning its honors with its mission of protecting and empowering women.
