Game over for bedroom performance: Chinese study links hourly screen time to rising Erectile Dysfunction risk

A study conducted by Chinese scientists has found a significant association between prolonged computer use and a heightened risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.

Analysing data from over 220,000 men aged between 40 and 69, the research revealed that each additional hour and 20 minutes spent on the computer could increase the chances of ED by 3.57 times.

Published in the ‘Andrology’ journal, the study specifically pointed out that such screen time is linked to higher levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), suggesting a decrease in sperm production and potential impotence.

Unlike computer usage, no similar effects were observed from watching television or driving.

The study found moderate physical activity as a potential corrective measure for computer-induced ED. This research comes amid concerns in China over the social impacts of video gaming, leading to regulatory measures to curb gaming addiction and excessive spending on games.
