Filmed beating of young women in Seattle splits internet

Video of a street fight between two white women and three black males divided opinion on Twitter (X).

Short clips showing only the final moments of the brutal beating spread on the Internet leading to calls of condemnation aimed at the men. Negative comments directed their way were primarily concerned with the superior strength of the males, and the complete physical inability of the women to defend themselves – not to mention the socially unacceptable norm that a man should never hit a woman.

‘Doesn’t matter at that point. Ask yourself. Is there anything anyone could do you you that you would beat a girl to a inch of her life like that. If you can find something than [sic] you need to look in a mirror at yourself. Completely unacceptable,’ wrote one user on Twitter (X).

But there’s a backstory

Later comments shone a light on the video’s backstory, and longer versions of the video were uploaded which provided a context to the men’s shocking behaviour.

The beginning showed one of the women aggressively approaching one of the men as he walked backwards asking her to ‘chill out’. She did not heed his requests, and when her accomplice joined in and started swinging punches, the fight erupted as another of the males became involved.

During the later stages of the fracas, after one of the women had been king-hit, the leading male assailant said, ‘you said ‘f***** n******!” It would appear the use of the N-word slur led to the situation.

One user commented:

‘The so called innocent white girls were in line went inside and talk with their friends and skipped the line after the blacks were told it’s gonna be a 30-45 minute wait, so the entitled white 👧 girls said we don’t have to wait like niggers.’

The longer version was uploaded by a Polish account. The English translation of their decription reads:

‘In the 19th century, the bravest immigrants from Europe risked their property, health and lives on the dangerous journey from Texas along the Oregon Trail. Each of them had a dream.

This is what their dream looks like 200 years later (Seattle, WA).’
