Massive snake filmed in India

A villager in India has filmed a giant snake trying to make it's way inside an out-building.

The identity of the filmer, and the location of footage is unknown. The date of the video, which has amassed almost 20 million views on Twitter alone, is also a mystery.

Estimating the size and length of the snake is difficult due to the fact that the scale of the reptile’s surroundings cannot be verified. However, assuming the roof stands at six feet tall, it could make the snake at least 18 feet (6 metres) long.

Throughout the video the filmer remains silent apart from a brief gasp as the snake navigates it’s huge body through an opening in the wall, after which it hits the flood with a noticeably audible thud.

The snake’s head appears to be tied in a noose. It is not clear if this resulted from it getting caught in the rope while climbing inside, or whether it was secured prior to the video.

A noticeable bulge about half way down its body points to the likelihood the snake had recently eaten something.

Much of the speculation online centred around the species of the snake, with many believing it to be an Anaconda. While India is home to some very large snakes, Anaconda’s are native only to South America.

Experts consider the snake likely to be a specimen of the Indian reticulated python, which is ranked third most heaviest snake in the world.
