Thief steals phone, returns demanding PIN and cash

In a bizarre turn of events, an alleged thief who swiped a phone from Daily Tea in West Auckland returned not once, but twice, attempting to extort staff for cash or the phone’s PIN.

Caught on CCTV lifting the bubble tea shop’s phone, the woman reappeared two days later, brazenly asking for $50 or at least the passcode.

Staff refused, sarcastically telling her to “keep the phone,” leaving the woman bewildered.

But her persistence didn’t end there—she came back a third time, staring down employees through the shop window, only to disappear after a staff member finally agreed to pay for the return of the phone.

Daily Tea took to social media to expose the absurd antics, sharing footage of the theft and encounters with the would-be extortionist. “Hope this small laggy company phone helps you strive further in life,” they posted, after the thief’s initial heist.

Staff are now fed up with her antics, with owner Cindy Yap imploring, “Just don’t come back… don’t harass my staff. I just want to be safe.” Police confirmed they had received a report about the theft, though options to pursue the case were limited.
